Great North Run: Round Two!

We’re super proud of our Head of Business Development, Nina Cliff, who took part in the Great North Run for a second consecutive year in support of Special Effect!

The Great North Run is a half marathon event held annually in Newcastle upon Tyne, attracting over 57,000 participants from over 130 different countries, many of whom take part to raise money for charities and good causes.

Special Effect is a charity close to Nina’s heart; as a Special Effect Ambassador, she helps to spread awareness of their work and the stories of the people they support. “The Great North Run is the world’s biggest half marathon, so it’s the perfect event for raising money and awareness for Special Effect. We hope to see more games companies joining us in 2020 for the 40th Great North Run!”.

What does Special Effect do?

Special Effect is a UK-based charity supporting people with physical disabilities by making video games more accessible using technology ranging from modified joypads to eye-control systems. The team at Special Effect understand that everyone’s abilities are different; they often arrange home visits to find out what people want to play and exactly what they need in order to play it, matching, modifying and even creating bespoke equipment to suit the needs of the individual.

By bringing fun and inclusivity to video games, Special Effect are bringing families and friends together which can have a “profoundly positive impact on confidence and rehabilitation”.
